With a growing awareness of green tea caffeine being linked to cancer, the Australian Greens have launched a campaign to convince people to avoid the stimulant.
“There is mounting evidence that green tea, particularly green leafy green tea and green tea containing caffeine, is a carcinogen and is known to cause a number of cancers,” Green Party health spokesperson and Green Party MP Catherine King said in a statement.
“Our campaign is to tell people that green teas are not the same thing as green tea. “
“This message should not be diluted with the misleading message that green coffee is better for you.””
It is no surprise that caffeine is being linked with cancer,” Dr King said. “

The best advice we can give people is to limit caffeine consumption, which includes avoiding green teabags and green beverages.””
The scientific evidence clearly shows that caffeine can increase your risk of cancer, and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has found that drinking caffeine can have adverse effects on the brain, the heart, the liver and the kidneys.”

“Drinking green tea is a good way to get more of the natural alkaloids, which are in green leaf tea, which have been shown to have anti-cancer properties.”
If you are trying to balance your coffee and tea consumption, you should always use a water-based coffee alternative.
“Dr King said the Greens would also be “directly reaching out” to businesses, to encourage them to “stop putting green tea products on their shelves”.”
The Greens will be working with businesses to make sure they stop putting green teapots on their shelf,” she said.”
We also want businesses to use our Green Tea Guide as a guide for what to order, and how to make a selection of your favourite green tea brands.
“The Greens said it was “disgusting” that some businesses were selling green tea as a “natural alternative” to coffee and sugar.”
There are thousands of health benefits of green leaf teas, and they are a great alternative to caffeine-containing coffee and sugary drinks,” Dr Kings said.
Green tea coffee can also be enjoyed in a variety of ways, with some of its benefits being reduced blood pressure and cholesterol.
A new research paper published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition last week found that green leaf green tea was found to lower blood pressure by as much as 4 per cent.
Green leaf green teacakes have also been found to help fight cancer, according to a 2014 study in the British Journal of Nutrition.
Green leaves are one of several green vegetables that can be used in cooking.”
I think there’s no doubt that there are benefits of using green teases,” Dr. King said, adding that it was important to balance green tea with other plant foods.”
This is not meant to suggest that green leaves are not a good food, but that they should not all be consumed together,” she added.
Dr King says she hopes the Greens will also be able to work with the Australian Medical Association to ensure that all Australians consume green tea.”
As a general rule, we don’t see it as bad to be eating some green leaf, but there are certainly a number who would prefer not to eat green leaf,” she told ABC Radio.”
People who are on the fence about the health benefits, they should eat green tea.
